Overview

The Sony PXW-X70 camcorder is video camera with a 1″-type Exmor R CMOS sensor with the capability of capturing footage in multiple formats including DV, HD, and 4K (UHD). Despite small compact size, it’s features and functionalities are numerous making it suitable for use as an A camera, and not just a glorified B camera. These include the Slow and Quick motion feature , which allows you to capture footage shot at a variety of frame rates in camera, as opposed to interpolating frames in post. The 3G-SDI and HDMI outputs allow the camera to be at home in both a professional infrastructure as well as a more consumer-oriented production. Support for professional mics is made possible by the XLR audio inputs (line, mic, and mic plus 48) incorporated in thie camera. Additionally, wireless LAN control is supported from select mobile devices.

Upgrade To UHD 4K

Sony has unveiled an upgrade software for the PXW-X70 camcorder to UHD 4K. This enables the camera to record 4K UHD, transfer files and stream Wi-Fi.

• • 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS sensor that is 4K ready

– This enables the camera to achieve high resolution with high sensitivity, low noise and a wide dynamic range. It’s 14.2MP enables one to shoot even when in poorly lit conditions, thus providing for more creativity. The high sensitivity is 1.67 stops brighter than that of a 1/2.88-inch sensor. The 1.0 sensor is brighter and offers more bokeh with a shallow depth of field than 1/3-inch or 1/4.7-inch sensors.

• • Advanced BIONZ X image processing engine

This achieves more lifelike images, and enables the addition of new features that facilitate for faster processing.

• • NFC/Wi-Fi

– This camera can be remotely controlled from a smartphone or tablet computer via a Wi-Fi connection (iOS 4.3 and later or Android 2.3 and later), and recorded video files can be transferred from camcorder to smartphone in MP4 format.* One-touch authentication is also possible with smartphones that offer NFC connectivity. The required Content Browser Mobile™ mobile smartphone application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or App Store.

• • Multi-format recording

– This camera records XAVC Long GOP 422 10-bit 1920 x 1080 50p/60p/50i/60i/ 30p/25p/24p at 50 Mbps and 35 Mbps, 1920 x 1080 50i/60i at 25 Mbps, as well as 1280 x720 50p/60p at 50 Mbps. It is also possible to record AVCHD 420 8-bit at 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x720 and DV. The PXW-X70 is also 4K ready and can handle 4K recordings with an upgrade.

Note: To record in the XAVC codec, this camera requires SDXC UHS-1 U3 media. All other codecs can be recorded by class 10 SDHC or SDXC media.

• • Dual Media Slots

– Equipped with two memory card slots, this camera can can record in either “Simul” or “Relay” mode. “Simul” mode permits simultaneous recording to two memory cards, while “Relay” mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when the first is full. You can also set the camera to independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while in Simul mode.

• • ND filter control

– The PXW-X70 is equipped with a variable ND Filter function, allowing you to choose among conventional mechanical ND filter positions from 1/4ND, 1/16 to 1/64ND.

• • Lens ring

– The lens ring enables smooth, natural adjustment of focusing or zooming, depending on which mode is selected.

• • Manual controls

– The manual dial and buttons on the side of the body allow for swift and easy adjustment of the IRIS (aperture), GAIN/ISO and shutter speed.
